HOPE DIES LAST

Even in the darkest of times, art has the power to illuminate the human spirit. We explore how contemporary artists are confronting global crises.

HOPE DIES LAST

最も暗い時代にあっても、アートには人の心を照らす力がある。現代アーティストたちが世界的危機にどう立ち向かっているかを探る。

To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.

What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.

Art reflects society, but it also shapes it. Contemporary artists are not merely observers; they are active participants in the dialogue of our times. Through their work, they challenge us to see the world differently, to question our assumptions, and to imagine new possibilities.

From the streets of Berlin to the galleries of New York, a new wave of creativity is emerging. It is raw, urgent, and undeniably powerful. It speaks to the anxieties of our age—climate change, political instability, social inequality—but it also speaks to our enduring capacity for hope.

This is not a passive hope, but an active one. It is a hope that demands action. It is a hope that believes in the possibility of change. And it is a hope that is fueled by the transformative power of art.
